The Doom Series

Doom (Dec 1993), Ultimate Doom (1995)

The legendary masterworks. A technological breakthrough in combat action games, Doom introduced a new 3-D graphics engine that set the gaming world on fire. Mix that with one pissed off marine and a few hundred demons from hell and you've got a megahit. In fact, it is recognized as the hottest 3-D action game ever created and is the most installed software of all time.

You are a marine on Mars, which is the home of the Union Aerospace Corporation. Secret projects on inter-dimensional space travel at the two moons, Phobos and Deimos, had some success. Recently, the Gateways have grown dangerously unstanble. A few hours ago, Mars received a garbled warning message from Phobos. Soone afterwards, Deimos vanished from the sky. Your buddies went to Phobos. Your radio picked up sounds fo combat, then finally silence. Your turn to move.

Besides selling Doom, id Software made lots of money by licensing the Doom Engine to other companies.

Doom has numerous versions released. Each version has a slightly modified engine and WAD format. The last one is Ultimate Doom which is version 1.9u.

Doom95 is a Windows version available for running Doom and Doom II WADs.
